1. Tight but Organized Curricula in Universities
In American universities, students are expected to arrange their study curricula by themselves. Universities just provide an outline of the arrangement of classes while students are granted a high degree of autonomy to choose the curricula. Before students are accepted to the universities they don’t need to think about their majors. When they are in the third grade, students are allowed to choose their majors according to their interests and preferences. Whether students can graduate from universities depends on their commitment to their studies. If they study diligently and are committed to their academic performance, they will probably graduate within two or three years. During study in universities, most students have to work part-time jobs. On one hand they can lay solid foundation for their future career and on the other hand they are able to earn money to financially support themselves including daily expenditure and tuition fees. Students, capable of earning more money, can utilize the money to travel around the world. For most of college students in America, independent and self-suffcient, they have tight schedules and are occupied by lots of things. During my stay, I often talked to students here. Their friendliness, hospitality, and responsiveness for life left me unforgettable impression. I am touched and moved by their affection and love for life and natural environment.
